easyJet Flying from Southend in 2012

easyJet has announced plans to make London Southend Airport its newest UK base from April 2012 after signing a 10-year partnership agreement with its owners, the Stobart Group. The airline will base three A319 aircraft and over 150 employees at Southend and expects to fly around 800,000 passengers in its first year of operation.

Initially there will be 70 easyJet flights per week and passengers will have a choice of around ten different European destinations including Barcelona, Faro and Ibiza. Tickets will go on sale at the end of July 2011.

Southend Airport's new terminal opens in autumn 2011 and its new rail station is due to open on July 18 2011. Up to eight trains each hour will leave for Stratford - site of the 2012 Olympics - and to Liverpool Street. The airport is 18 miles from the M25 and about 40 miles from central London.
