Waterways Holidays Adds Monkton Combe

Specialist boating agency Waterways Holidays is introducing narrowboat holidays from Monkton Combe on the Kennet and Avon canal, with three boats available for hire this summer 2014.

Recently-featured on More4’s Great Canal Journeys, the Kennet and Avon canal re-opened in 1990 after a major restoration. This picturesque starting point could not be better placed for exploring Wiltshire, being half way between Bath and Bradford-on-Avon and easily accessed by road or rail. Navigable features include the Dundas and Avoncliffe aqueducts and, for those travelling east, the challenge of Caen Hill’s 27 locks to reach Devizes.

Monkton Combe offers free parking for those renting narrowboats, and a towpath cafe called the Angel Fish. Based at Monkton Combe, 'Knighton' is a manageable 58-feet boat sleeping two couples or a family of four with flexible bed layout. A well-behaved dog is also welcome. A week’s rental this year starts at Ł960 to include tuition on arrival, gas for cooking and heating, bed linen and towels. It excludes damage waiver and diesel, which is charged as used.

Also based at Monkton Combe, narrowboat Blake sleeps up to six and Eynsham sleeps up to eight.
