Simply Sweden Expands Northern Lights Range

Simply Sweden has added new tours to its portfolio of winter Northern Lights holidays.

One new option is a five-day ‘Husky Expedition–Finnmark’ which includes the chance to drive a team of huskies on an adventurous three-day journey through the wilderness of the Finnmark Mountain Plateau in northern Norway. Priced at £1755 per person, guests will travel under the Northern Lights to the snow deserts of Øvre Anarjohka and Stabbursdalen national parks and stay in cabins used by Sami reindeer herders. The cost includes return flights to Alta from the UK (via Oslo), airport transfers in Alta, three course evening meal on day one and day four, two nights at Stengelsegårdenis Lodge including breakfast, three days/two nights on the husky expedition including two nights at a mountain cabin and two breakfasts and two wilderness lunches, warm outer clothing (hat, winter suit, mittens and boots).

Also new in northern Norway is a three-night ‘Malangen Fjord’ itinerary at Camp Nikka. Prices start from £925 and the trip includes snowmobile safaris, ice fishing and snow-shoeing. Alternatively, a three-night weekend in Arjeplog in Swedish Lapland with two full days racing go-karts on a frozen lake under the guidance of a professional instructor, costs from £2495. Or, a ‘Forest to Mountain’ five-night trip includes accommodation in a Treehotel in the Boreal Forest. Priced from £1685, the location is on an historic Sami migration route and serves as a base from which clients can explore the surrounding mountains on snowmobile and husky rides, learn about Sami life and view the Northern Lights from a sled.

The specialist operator has also designed a new tour which has been timed carefully to combine both the Midnight Sun and the Northern Lights. The one-off escorted tour, 'Wonders Of The Sun', takes in Svalbard, the Norwegian fjords and the Swedish mountains in August. The 11-night trip, limited to 16 places, will offer a range of activities, including the chance to see polar bears, a cultural tour of Tromsø led by a Sami guide, a cruise onboard the Hurtigruten across the Arctic Circle, passing through the Vesterålen and Lofoten archipelagos. The tour continues to the Scandes mountains and Tännforsen, Sweden's largest waterfall, for more aurora-watching opportunities in dark skies. Prices lead in at £3990 per person, based on two sharing, including flights, transfers, full-board accommodation and activities.
