Ffestiniog New Escorted Tours 2017

Ahead of the publication of its main 'Rail Holidays of the World 2017' brochure in mid-August, specialist tour operator Ffestiniog Travel has released details of new itineraries to Uzbekistan, Cambodia and Vietnam and South Africa as well as new rail tours in the UK and Europe.

New escorted tours for 2017 include a 15-night ‘South Africa & Stars of Sandstone’ tour which takes in many of South Africa’s key sights including Cape Town, Robben Island, Shamwari Private Game Reserve, Knysna and Johannesburg. Three days of the holiday are spent at the famous Stars of Sandstone Steam Festival. The trip departs 22 March 2017 and costs from £3,995 per person.

Another new option is a 15-night 'Magic of Vietnam, Cambodia & the Mekong Delta’ general interest itinerary which combines scenic landscapes, colonial architecture and cruising in Vietnam before travelling through the Mekong Delta’s water villages to Cambodia to explore Phnom Penh’s opulent Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and Siem Reap. The tour departs 22 October 2017, the price tbc.

New tours in Europe include a 15-night escorted tour by train and boat, ‘Danube from Sea to Source’ which begins in the Romanian city of Constanta on 30 June 2017. A new ‘Small & Traditional’ tour (maximum 20 people) is ‘Uzbekistan and the Silk Road’. This 11-night tour travels between Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara by rail. Another new ‘Small & Traditional’ tour is an 11-night ‘Romania’s Danube Delta & the Carpathians – a wildlife paradise’. Highlights include the opportunity to observe local birdlife from close quarters, whilst staying at a small guesthouse reached by boat, a visit to the annual shepherds’ festival in Vrancea and to a bear sanctuary near Zarnesti.

Ffestiniog Travel has also expanded its range of 'European Connoisseur Tours' designed for those with a specific passion for railways. New offerings include ‘Bulgaria by Steam’, ‘Trams of Central Europe’ and ‘English Trams & Trolleybuses’.
