Cumbrian Cottages Lakeland Breaks For Swallows & Amazons Fans

Filmed on and around Coniston Water and Derwentwater, BBC Films’ new family film opens nationwide on 19 August. Based on Arthur Ransome's popular children's book, the film features Rafe Spall, Kelly MacDonald and six young actors.

Cumbrian Cottages has a portfolio of over 1200 properties across the region and still has availablility this summer for families seeking a Lakeland adventure.

Scarr Head Cottage, within two miles of Coniston Water, is a quintessential Lakeland farmhouse with whitewashed walls, slate roof and flagged floors. It has four bedrooms to sleep up to seven people. Offering wonderful country views, Coniston village is just a mile and half away and the nearest pub is only 700 yards away. Seven nights from August 27 2016 costs £912.

Peel Island on Coniston Water is the real ‘Wild Cat Island’ from the book. The four Walker children sail there in ‘Swallow’ and team up with the Blackett girls, who sail the ‘Amazon’ before embarking on a series of adventures that make the most of the great outdoors.

A few miles away in Keswick, Lund Cottage provides a double and a twin bedroom perfect for a small family that wants to be close to a lake yet have all the facilities of the little town on the doorstep. It is an ‘upside-down’ cottage, with the open-plan living/dining/kitchen space in the vaulted first floor. Tucked into a quiet corner of Keswick, Derwentwater is just four minutes’ walk away. Seven nights from August 20 2016 costs £673.

Among the many outdoor adventures in the lakes, families can hire canoes and dinghies from Coniston Boating Centre, and take a trip in a traditional launch on Derwentwater.
