Brittany Ferries Launches No Frills Service

p>Brittany Ferries has introduced a new no frills car ferry service linking Portsmouth to Le Havre in Normandy and Santander in northern Spain.

Branded Brittany Ferries économie, it is aimed at customers who wish to travel to France or Spain at a very reasonable fare without the cruise-style experience normally provided by Brittany Ferries. One-way fares for a car plus two in Spring 2014 start from £59 to France and £169 including reclining seats to Spain. Bicycles and motorcyclists are welcome on both routes but foot passengers will only be accepted on the route to and from Le Havre.

Brittany Ferries economie is operated by recently acquired ship, Etretat, named after the coastal village in Normandy famous for its stunning sea cliffs and dramatic chalk arches, all easily accessible by car from the port of Le Havre. Facilities and space onboard are limited compared to Brittany Ferries cruise ferry services, but still include a bar, small boutique and movie lounge as well as free WiFi internet access. There is also a self-service restaurant.

Etretat is an especially convenient option for pet owners thanks to 13 petfriendly cabins which allow dogs to travel with their owners in comfort. In fact, Etretat will be the only ferry between the UK and France to offer this feature, helping meet an ever increasing demand for cross-Channel pet travel.

The new service comprises a daytime sailing from Portsmouth to Le Havre and an overnight sailing from Le Havre to Portsmouth each Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The crossing time is 5 hours 30 minutes during the day and around 9 hours overnight. At weekends there is a Saturday morning departure from Portsmouth to Santander and a Sunday afternoon sailing back to Portsmouth with a crossing time of 26 hours each way.

Customers can mix and match Brittany Ferries économie sailings with the companys existing cruise ferry and high speed sailings to Normandy, Brittany and northern Spain, travelling out by one route and returning by another. Altogether there are now 10 routes and up to 130 weekly sailings.
