Southeast Asia specialist Bamboo Travel has launched a new adventurous tour of Borneo's culture and wildlife.
The 18-day Wild Borneo itinerary includes a challenging six-day expedition deep into Sarawak's interior to explore pristine rainforests and experience the tribal hosts' way of life. Starting in Kuching, the tour visits the Semonggoh orangutan sanctuary and takes in the historic riverside city. The expedition starts from the coastal town of Miri with a flight to the Long Lellang airstrip close to the border with Kalimantan, spending six days with the semi-nomadic Penan tribe trekking in the rainforests and learning forest skills. The second part of the tour is spent in Sabah, home to Borneo's highest concentration of wildlife, to explore waterways which attract orangutans, elephants, crocodiles, proboscis monkeys and a great variety of colourful and rare birds.
Prices start from £2695 per person based on two sharing. This includes international and domestic flights, nine-nights’ hotel accommodation, six nights in a homestay/expedition style hammock, daily breakfast, seven lunches and seven dinners, all road transfers, shared boat transfers and tours on both a private and shared basis.
