What should I take with me to the airport?
The exact requirements will depend on your particular journey but generally you will require the following:

Your Passport - check that it is valid - for UK Citizens you will generally need a full ten year passport and for some countries your passport must be valid for a minimum period after your return date to the UK - typically this is six months. Check specific requirements with the appropriate Consulate Departments of the countries you will be visiting. [List of Embassies ]

Any Visas, Passport endorsements or Travel Authorities required for the countries you are visiting - check any requirements with the appropriate Consulate Departments of the countries you will be visiting.
Your e-ticket receipt or paper ticket - check that the names on all tickets are identical to those in the corresponding passports

You will need all of the above valid documents in order to receive your boarding pass from the airline check-in desk or self-service kiosk. Without a boarding pass you will not be able to enter Passport Control and the security channel.

Important: It is your responsibility to make sure that you have valid documents. Failure to do so could result in delays at the airport or even prevent you from travelling resulting in financial loss in the case of non-refundable/changeable tickets.
